ARtist Research: Hua Tunan

Hua Tunan is a chinese street artist. I don't read chinese or have much context for contemporary chinese culture, so i can really only interface with this art on a formal level, but that formal level is delicious. This artist does dynamic splattery ink drawings, and large paintings on walls. Doesn't shy away from bright colors.

The collective?? whereon i found most of the pictures of his work
A fairly comprehensive DA
Tumblr

Video which is an ad for volvo but does involve him painting a large space.

Extremely active drawing process involving spryapaint and splattered paint. uses long brushes and squeegies on long-handles with drippy paint.

Interested in: use if extremely bright colors, to biuld up areas and to accent areas. Building up texture and especially mass (because these animals look like they have mass) out of chaos. Knowing where to splatter to build up these forms. Building up drawings with limited lines (for accent);

conceptual thing where he set his own work on fire

paper cuttings. Shows detail and depth without the ability of using such an organic dynamic process; nonetheless they're very active little papercuttings.
